Marbella Old Town
Marbella Old Town is a hidden gem of a place, which many tourists fail to find. It can be found just up from the main Ricardo Soriano Road through Marbella (at the eastern end of the town). Just five minutes’ walk from the centre of town, the old town offers cobbled streets, authentic tapas bars and the famous Orange Square, which is home to some of the best art galleries, shops and restaurants in town. Orange Square, as its name would suggest is lined with orange trees and tropical plants, and provides the perfect place for visitors to sit, relax with a coffee or a large G and T. This vibrant part of town buzzes with activity, and you can lose yourself in the maze of streets around Orange Square.
Paseo de Maritimo Marbella
Of all the seafront promenades I have visited in southern Spain, this is my favourite. The Paseo de Maritimo of Marbella is lined with a great choice of bars, restaurants and seafood cafés, but it still gives the feeling of space. The Paseo is pedestrianised and the only vehicles you will see using it are occasional police vehicles or security cars. Offering great views over the sea, the Paseo is popular with joggers, skateboarders and keep fit enthusiasts, and there is no better place to people-watch than in this lively but scenic part of town. If you want to treat yourself, book a table at Santiago´s on the eastern end of the Paseo, famous for its fresh lobster and seafood, or sample some authentic paella and Mediterranean fish at one of the many beach bars on the sand. Pasta da Bruno is also a good option if you fancy going ´Italian´ for the day.
Avenida del Mar, Marbella
Art lovers will find an impressive collection of Salvador Dali sculptures down the Avenida del Mar, and this incredible outdoor exhibition, attracts visitors all year round. From the top of the Avenida del Mar, you can look down this beautiful street to the sea, and both sides of the pedestrianised walkway are flanked by fountains. Avenida del Mar is situated in the middle of town, and to reach it, pass through Alameda Park (next to the Marbella Café) and head down towards the sea. There are plenty of benches on either side of the street, where you can relax and enjoy the sculptures, or walk down to the promenade and watch the world go by.
La Alameda Park Marbella
Just south of Marbella´s Old Town, on the other side of the road is the Alameda Park (next to the Marbella Café). If you are lucky enough to be here in Feria time (mid-June), the gardens come alive with live music, dancing and open air bars to celebrate the annual extravaganza. La Alameda Park is a popular place to take a break, for locals and tourists alike, and it boasts a magnificent central fountain, constructed from typical Andalucian tiles.
Family things to do in Marbella
Take a trip to Selwo Wildlife Park near Estepona (about 20 minutes from Marbella) and view over 2,000 species in a semi-natural environment, or take a trip to Tivoli Amusement Park in Benalmadena, with plenty of kid’s rides and live entertainment. Quad biking, paint-balling and jeep safaris are also popular options on the Costa del Sol, and you can pick leaflets up from any tourist information centre or from your luxury corporate Marbella villa host.
Beaches in Marbella
If you prefer to hang loose and soak up the sun on one of Marbella´s many beaches, hire a sun-bed and parasol for around €5 per day, and enjoy lunch in a local beach bar. If you are feeling more active, there are plenty of water sports facilities to choose from on most Marbella beaches, including water-skiing, paragliding, Banana boat and donuts. If you want to get out of town for a day, drive to Golden Beach at Elviria (ten minutes east of Marbella centre) or Puerto Cabopino Beach (12 minutes east of Marbella), where you can even go starkers if the mood takes you!
The Marina Puerto Banus
Of all the places to visit in and around Marbella, there is nowhere quite like Puerto Banus, where the rich and famous (and not so famous) like to play. Stroll around the Marina, stopping off at Salduba Pub or Sinatra´s Bar just inside the west entrance to the port, and enjoy some excellent people-watching. Whether you want to sit and soak up the atmosphere of Puerto Banus, enjoy a meal at one of the many fabulous portside restaurants, or simply stroll around the marina, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to see and do.

If you are looking for something cheap and cheerful, take a trip round Nueva Andalucia Market on a Saturday morning, where hundreds of stalls sell everything from tablecloths to motor-homes.
Marbella Culture
The Costa del Sol may be more famous for its beaches than its culture, but there are a number of art galleries, museums and theatres in the area, plus packed schedules of live dance, entertainment and music, particularly in the summer months. The Sammer Gallery in Puerto Banus houses one of Spain´s largest exhibitions of modern art, and Marbella´s Bonsai Museum is home to a wonderful exhibition of Bonsai trees.
